28-Year-Old Mara Ferguson Injured In Effingham, IL AccidentThe crash remains under investigationPosted: 4 years agoShare Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Email This StoryTragic accident that occurred on Sunday, April 11 at around 12:16 AM in Effingham, Illinois. 28-year-old Mara Ferguson was seriously injured in a DUI crash that occurred along US Route 40. 33-year-old Andrew E. Welter was traveling west in a GMC when he crossed the centerline. An eastbound Ford Fiesta swerved to the left to avoid the vehicle, but was struck head-on by the GMC. Ms. Ferguson, who drove the Ford, was injured and transported to an area hospital after the crash. Her passenger, a 29-year-old Charleston woman died from injuries. Welter was also injured and hospitalized. Police said he was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to slow down to avoid a collision.
