The incident happened on Business 80 over the American River around 5:20 a.m. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), an Audi traveling southbound in the No. 3 lane encountered French walking on the roadway. The driver attempted to swerve but struck French with the left side mirror. A Mazda CX-30 following behind then collided with the pedestrian. Tragically, French was pronounced dead at the scene.
