The tanker truck was traveling southbound when the front right steer tire malfunctioned and burst. The 31-year-old driver of the tanker lost control of the rig and ran off the roadway to the left. It then entered the center median area, rolled over, and spilled part of its load onto the northbound lanes. Schaffer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
