A preliminary investigation suggests that a car driven by Jeffrey Jones struck Hammond, who was taken to a local hospital, where, sadly, he died. According to his obituary, Hammond, a member of the Utica City Church, worked for the ARC, a service center for those with developmental disabilities. Jones was arrested the next day and was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash. Police said the wreck remains under investigation.
