The victim was riding his bicycle when a westbound Nissan passenger car went up to the sidewalk and struck him. The Nissan driver, later identified as William James Abbott, fled the scene. The 78-year-old bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Abbott was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury, felony tampering with evidence, and holding/supporting a wireless device.
