Two children were injured in a hit-and-run accident that Carolina Celeste Araya-Ortiz was arrested in connection with. The crash occurred at the intersection of Sheridan Avenue and Pine Tree Drive. Authorities said that Araya-Ortiz made contact with one of the victims and spoke to two other juvenile witnesses, but then got back into her SUV and fled the scene without calling 911. The victims, a boy and a girl, were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment of their injuries. Araya-Ortiz went to the Miami Beach police station around 10:45 p.m. Monday to turn herself in. She was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash not involving serious injury.
