Haylie Grimes died when she was struck by a motor vehicle along Farm-to-Market 317. A 2008 Dodge Charger drove into the eastbound lane, disregarded a no-passing zone, and stopped. Grimes crossed the westbound lane to be picked up by the Dodge driver when a speeding 2021 Kia Rio struck Grimes and the Dodge. Grimes was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Kia, a 19-year-old Athens man, was arrested. He faces charges of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and was booked into the Henderson County Jail. The crash remains under investigation by DPS.
