Stanley Gumm was tragically struck and killed by an impaired driver on Highway 74. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Gumm was driving a semi-truck that broke down, so he pulled over on the shoulder of the highway. While Gumm was placing orange hazard cones behind the vehicle, he was hit by a Toyota Camry driven by Daniel Ray Thompson. Sadly, Gumm was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers determined that Thompson was impaired and arrested him. He was charged with death by vehicle and driving while impaired. We send our thoughts and prayers to the family of the victim.
