Lynch was driving a Kia Optima that was struck head-on by a Toyota Corolla traveling the wrong way. The DPS believes that the driver of the Corolla, who was killed in the accident, may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fateful collision. Lynch sustained a spinal fracture, a broken hip, and a broken arm in the collision. Two passengers in the Optima were pronounced dead at the scene.
