Mr. Altieri was speeding in a Ford Taurus when it struck a utility pole in front of 3687 Richmond Avenue, near Bartlett Avenue. His passenger, described only as a 24-year-old, suffered serious injuries. The New York Police Department's Highway District Collision Investigation Squad said that Mr. Altieri was speeding and “failed to properly navigate the roadway” when his vehicle struck the pole. The crash remains under investigation.
