One person was injured in a hit-and-run accident with an alleged impaired driver, 36-year-old Derek M. Dawson, who was driving at a high rate of speed near Hamilton Boulevard and NE Perry Avenue. Police did not pursue Dawson because he was driving so fast. Minutes later, police were called to SW Monroe and Main streets for reports of a hit-and-run. An unidentified man was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Dawson allegedly fled the scene but was later apprehended. Dawson was arrested for failure to report an accident, DUI, failure to render aid, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving on a suspended license, illegal transportation of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident.
