Whisenhunt was in the northbound lane directing traffic after his 1990 GMC C30 100 pickup had broken down.This was when he was hit by a northbound 1990 Ford F-250. The Elkin man, who was wearing a reflective vest at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
