Smith lost his life in a motorcycle accident outside Kaneland High School. The 16-year-old girl was leaving the High School and had just left the parking lot and struck a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Smith, the motorcycle rider, was critically injured and later died at the scene. The teen driver was cited for failure to avoid an accident and disobeying a stop sign.
