One person was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident with a semi-truck when a tractor-trailer operated by 65-year-old Charles Edward McDuffie allegedly turned in front of another vehicle at the intersection of N.C. 87 and Tobermory Road. The driver of that vehicle was killed in the collision. McDuffie fled the scene but later turned himself in to authorities. McDuffie was charged with felony hit-and-run, felony obstruction of justice, and one count of misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter. The suspect works for Destiny Trucking.
