The crash occurred around 4 PM on Saturday, September 25. The train had around 141 passengers, and 16 crew members on board. Eight of the 10 cars derailed. Amtrak spokesperson Jason Abrams said in a statement that “we are deeply saddened to learn local authorities are now confirming three people have lost their lives as a result of the accident”.
